We’ve been on quite the journey with potty training over the past year! (Yes, it really feels like it’s been taking that long!) Standard potty charts weren’t really working for us and after searching and searching for just the right thing, I finally decided that I needed to create my own! I really wanted a way to not only track the individual successes of going to the potty but also a longer-term goal of staying dry during the day and working towards a larger prize!
Potty training can be a challenging task, but with the help of the right kind of reward chart, it can become a fun and effective process. This printable chart allows you to track your child's progress and provide them with incentives for reaching their potty training goals. Start using this printable chart today and celebrate your child's successes along the way!
The Ultimate Reward Chart for Potty Training
I created this potty chart to help us track and reward every time that my son successfully used the potty, stayed dry all day, and motivate him towards staying dry for a whole week to earn a large prize! This potty chart was a game-changer for us, so I wanted to make sure to share it with you all!
How To Use This Potty Chart
The first chart is a weekly chart that allows you to track individual successes when using the potty each day. We used star stickers that I bought, but you can also just draw on this potty chart. We used the little stars to track when he peed, and the big stars were for going #2! If there was a day where there were no accidents, then we filled in the circle for the “I stayed dry!” column and then he got to also fill in a section of his second reward chart. We also chose to print out several copies of the first chart, knowing that he likely wasn’t going to stay consecutively dry in just one week. Depending on your child’s progress with potty training or their motivations, you could also choose to have small rewards for each time they use the potty (something like m&ms or Skittles), or also have a reward for each day they stay dry (maybe a lollipop or extra screen time - whatever is motivating and rewarding for your child!).
The second chart was a monster truck (because my son just loves monster trucks!) that I sectioned into 7 sections to coordinate with a week of staying dry, although the days certainly didn’t have to be consecutive in order to fill them in. (In this printable potty chart, I also have versions that are a dinosaur, a flower, or a cat.) We knew that accidents would happen and I still wanted to reward the days that he stayed dry and help him visualize a larger prize when he filled in all of the monster truck!
To make it even easier for my son to visualize that goal, we printed out a picture of the prize that he wanted to work toward and taped it next to his potty charts. I’m learning a lot about my son during this potty training process, and he definitely is motivated by prizes, but really needs the opportunity to focus on a long-term goal.
My son actually completed his monster truck reward chart while we were away on vacation and he was worried that his new prize wouldn’t know where we were since we weren’t at home! So we took the chart and the prize with us to give him during our vacation at the beach! He was so excited that the prize still found him on vacation and I think it helped to keep him motivated to use the potty even when we were somewhere new!
