A diaper bag is a must-have for new parents. Make your baby shower gift stand out by packing it with all the necessities. Here's how to do it!
For many years, all of my close girlfriends would always come together to splurge on whatever diaper bag was on the baby registry when one of us was expecting a new little one and we would fill it with all of the best necessities and diaper bag essentials before we gifted it from all of us! I loved when my girlfriends so thoughtfully picked out the diaper bag that I really wanted and stocked it full with all of the essentials, so I also wanted to do this when my sister was expecting her first baby! She had this incredible backpack diaper bag from Parker Baby Co. on her list so I made sure to grab a few other essentials that I found on her baby registry and also fill it up with lots of my other favorite essentials that I keep in my diaper bag for my kids.

What to Put in a Diaper Bag as a Baby Shower Gift
If you're looking for a practical and thoughtful baby shower gift, consider a diaper bag filled with all the essentials. From diapers and wipes to extra clothes and toys, a well-stocked diaper bag can make life easier for new parents. Here's how to create the perfect diaper bag gift:
Choosing the Right Diaper Bag
When choosing a diaper bag for your gift, consider the style and functionality. Look for a bag with multiple compartments and pockets to keep items organized. This will help the parents stay organized and easily find what they need while out and about with their baby. You can also provide extra organization by including small pouches or containers for items like diapers, wipes, extra clothes, and snacks. This will make it even easier for the new parents to keep everything in its place and avoid any unnecessary stress while on the go.
Also, consider the material and durability of the bag. A backpack-style diaper bag can be a great option for hands-free convenience, while a tote-style bag may be more stylish. Don't forget to also consider the color or pattern, as the parents may have a specific preference or nursery theme. It's important to consider the parents’ personal style and preferences. Do they prefer a more classic look or something more trendy? Do they like bold colors or more neutral tones? These are all important factors to consider when selecting a diaper bag that they will love and use frequently. You can also consider any specific features they may need, such as a built-in changing pad or insulated bottle pockets. By taking their personal style and needs into account, you can ensure that your gift will be both practical and appreciated.
Of course, the easiest way to make sure they get a diaper bag they will enjoy is to purchase whatever they have on their baby registry! They have likely done a lot of research into selecting exactly what they are looking for. The Parker Baby Co. items in the photo above were all on my sister’s baby registry, so I was able to use those as my inspiration for building out her Diaper Bag gift for their baby shower!

Pack Extra Clothes and Wet Bags
When packing a diaper bag as a baby shower gift, it's important to include extra clothes for the baby in case of accidents or spills. It’s also a fun way to include one or two cute outfits! It’s always a great idea to pack the diaper bag with at least one extra outfit, including a onesie, pants, and socks. I love using packing cubes to keep the clothes organized inside of the diaper bag and it’s easy to grab and refill anytime you need. Additionally, include a wet bag for dirty clothes or cloth diapers. Wet bags are waterproof and can be easily washed, making them a convenient and eco-friendly option. Make sure to choose a wet bag that matches the style and color of the diaper bag for a cohesive look, or get fun colors and patterns that match their style.

Stock Up on Diaper Bag Essentials
When packing a diaper bag as a baby shower gift, it's important to include all the essentials. This includes diapers (at least 5-6), wipes, diaper cream, and a changing pad. Most diaper bags come with a changing pad included, but if the one you pick out doesn’t have one, make sure to grab one that will fit! You could also add in a few “personal care” items for the baby, like our favorite boogie wipes, water wipes, some probiotics or gas relief drops, or infant Tylenol. By including all the diaper essentials, you'll ensure that the new parents are prepared for any diapering situation.

Don't Forget Feeding Supplies
In addition to diapers and changing supplies, it's important to include feeding supplies in a diaper bag gift. This can include a breastfeeding cover, bottles, formula (if the baby is not exclusively breastfed), formula containers, portable bottle warmers, a burp cloth, and a bib. If the baby is older and starting to eat solid foods, you can also include a small container of baby food and a spoon. By including feeding supplies, you'll ensure that the new parents are prepared for any feeding situation while on the go.

Add Some Fun Extras
In addition to the essentials, consider adding some fun extras to the diaper bag as a baby shower gift. A teething toy or pacifier can provide comfort for a fussy baby, while a board book or soft toy can provide entertainment during diaper changes. Don't forget to include a small first aid kit with items like infant pain reliever, band-aids, and a thermometer. And for the parents, consider adding a gift card to a local coffee shop or restaurant for a much-needed break. These thoughtful extras will make your diaper bag gift stand out and be appreciated by the new parents.
