I finally finished my online Christmas shopping the other night! Anyone else feeling “on top of things” like I am this year?! Anything else that we want to get for last-minute stocking stuffers or small gifts from local shops we can still do over the next week or so, but it feels so good to be “done!” With ever-rising cases of Coronavirus emerging in our area, it is my goal to limit our “places we need to go” over the next few weeks so that we can stay as healthy as possible moving into the Christmas season. Plus, I just really don’t enjoy the “hustle and bustle” of crowded stores and busy streets for holiday shopping. There are a few rare times that I really like to feel a part of the energy of that type of shopping, but those times are few and far between!
So I’m extra thankful this year to be able to shop online and have things delivered to our home. And that means that there are other people out here delivering those Christmas gifts, groceries, meal plan supplies (and more!) right to our front door. And that means that I’m privileged enough to not have to do that shopping outside of the comfort of my home.
And so, I finally got around to doing something that I’ve been wanting to do for years… and set out snacks and drinks for our delivery personnel! I picked up all of the basket supplies at Target the other night when I placed my Drive Up order for other final Christmas gift supplies. The metal basket is slightly larger than what I was expecting (I really should pay more attention to the details), but I was able to use another random metal basket that I had in my house to separate the breakfast bars and other snacks. I have seen other snack baskets just print a sign that they fold in half and hang over the front of the basket (which I have included in my free printable set!), but I was afraid it would blow away - so instead I grabbed a cheap 8x10 frame and set that at the back of the basket and placed the text at the top of the sign so that nothing would be covered up by snacks. I think you could easily use a basket or bin that you already have in your house and find a way to attach the sign with wire or string so that it doesn’t blow away.
I plan to leave this out on our front porch during the day and bring it inside each night (in hopes that nothing will freeze). I may also stock up on some bottles or cans of gatorade or Starbucks drinks so that they have something to give them a bit more energy! I tried not to go overboard right away.
Simple Steps to Create the Perfect Delivery Snacks Basket
1. Choose a basket
I chose a metal basket that was easy to keep outdoors - there are so many great basket options to choose from! Use something you already have around the house to snag one of these inexpensive options that you can dedicate to use for delivery snacks throughout the year.
2. Fill it with snacks and drinks
Don’t skimp here - get some snacks and drinks that you know they will truly appreciate! My most popular snacks last year were the breakfast bars, candy canes, candy bars and the bottles of water.
3. Add your sign
Make sure it is clear that this is a basket of snacks just for your delivery drivers! (Well, ours is for our mail delivery as well, since they walk right up to our front door.) Use a frame to keep your sign safe from the elements, or just print it out on card stock and hang it on the basket itself.
